Flipped Classroom Research

I researched the Flipped Classroom Model (FCM) for my research activity.  I discovered that there has not been extensive research done on the K-12 FCM.  There has been more research done on the FCM in higher education. I have also discovered that the research that has been done on the FCM shows success in the STEM model. Also, the research that has been done in the K-12 FCM model has several advantages and disadvantages.  Some advantages are that students can spend as much time as they need reviewing class materials/lectures/videos before class. This allows for more problem-solving, critical thinking and one-on-one time with the teacher during class. Some of the disadvantages are that some students might not be very motivated to view materials outside of class which would make them unprepared for group work during class.  Also, the materials might be too difficult to conceptualize and therefore students would not understand the materials they preview.

What I learned about APA formatting is that it requires a lot of attention to detail. I learned I need to capitalize only the first word of the title and subtitle, acronyms and proper nouns only in an annotated bibliography.  I also need to make sure I double space and the indents have to be correct.

Candidates demonstrate foundational knowledge of the contribution of research to the past and current theory of educational communications and technology by-

  • Theoretical Foundations - The authors of the articles I read reported extensive research for the flipped classroom models based on several different flipped classroom models, pedagogies and educational theories.
  • Method - The authors applied several different methodologies during their research studies to conclude accurate results to be able to learn from and apply helpful data to increase the effectiveness of the flipped classroom model in K-12 and higher education.
  • Assessing/Evaluating-In their research, the authors utilized several types of strategies to question the accountability and assessment presented in the research studies.  These assessments were then used to apply the increased effectiveness of the flipped classroom model and offer teacher training to apply these effective methods.
  • Ethics - Researchers applied acceptable educational practices to conduct research to achieve accurate and ethical results while researching the flipped classroom model.
